First Continental Congress Convenes
September 5, 1774
Delegates from twelve colonies assemble in Philadelphia as the First Continental Congress convenes. They gather to consider a collective response to the measures imposed on Massachusetts.
The meeting brings together men with differing instructions and interests, many meeting one another for the first time. Deliberations proceed behind closed doors as they work to frame a position that can be carried back to their colonies.
They meet together, though what they will agree to remains unclear.
