Weather Delays Howe
March 6, 1776
British forces prepare boats and troops for an assault on Dorchester Heights.
General William Howe organizes an attack to dislodge the American guns now overlooking Boston harbor. Wind and heavy snow disrupt coordination in the harbor and along the shore, making embarkation difficult and timing uncertain.
The delay gives Howe’s officers time to weigh the cost of an assault.
