Paul Revere's Ride

April 18, 1775

Paul Revere and William Dawes ride out from Boston at night, carrying word that British troops are moving toward the countryside. They take separate routes and alert riders and militia as they pass through the towns.

The movement of troops follows orders to secure colonial supplies and arrest leading figures. Local networks respond quickly, passing the warning from one rider to the next as preparations begin.

The message moves ahead of the soldiers.
