Boston Port Act
March 31, 1774
Parliament passes the first Coercive Act, ordering the closure of Boston Harbor until compensation is made for the destroyed tea. Ships are turned away, and the movement of goods into the town.
The measure isolates Boston. News of the closure spreads to other colonies, where assemblies and towns begin to consider how to respond to the disruption.
The hardship of one town begins to draw notice.
