Declaratory Act
March 18, 1766
The Rockingham ministry consents to the Declaratory Act in exchange for a repeal of the Stamp Act.
The Declaratory Act asserts Parliament's authority to legislate for the colonies in all cases.
The tax is lifted, but the claim of authority remains.
